Datacenter Network Outage (Resolved)

  • The datacenter where our email servers are located has experienced a complete network outage.

    No data has been lost and currently the backup email server is collecting mail which will be delivered when the main servers come back online.

    The datacenter technicians have identified an upstream problem that is currently affecting connectivity, they have raised this as a fault with their circuit providers, and are in communication with them.

    Update: 21 Jun 2021, 4:22 p.m.
    They are still continuing to work with their provider to get this issue resolved as soon as possible.

    Update: 21 Jun 2021, 6:06 p.m.
    Their  provider has informed them that they have located a fault within the fibre infrastructure and a BT OpenReach team has been sent to take corrective action on the fault.

    Update: 21 Jun 2021, 7:29 p.m.
    The BT Openreach Team have run diagnostics and have located the faults upstream of our network. They are currently carrying out tests to determine the exact location and nature of the faults.

    Update: 21 Jun 2021, 10:05 p.m.
    The BT Openreach team have identified the fault with the fibre cable in the London area. Their major incident team are working to restore service as a priority.

Emergency Maintainence (Resolved)

    MAINTENANCE BEGIN: 14:00 BST 16/04/2021.
    MAINTENANCE END: 15:00 BST 16/04/2021.

     

    ISSUE:

     

    Our infrastructure monitoring systems have alerted us to an issue with the RAID card on the email server Pinky.

    In order to prevent further unscheduled interruptions to service we have taken the decision to replace the RAID card on an emergency maintenance basis.

     

     

    IMPACT:

    At 14:00 16/04/2021 we will shut the server down and replace the faulty hardware, we estimate that this will take less than 30 minutes, though it could extend past that if there are any unforeseen issues.

    As always, we will have systems administrators standing by to monitor the process, and will be instantly alerted to any issues in the unlikely event that they arise.

    We do apologise for the inconvenience this may cause, however it is essential we carry out this maintenance to avoid issues and unscheduled downtime in the future.
